Counselling - Open Place

COUNSELLING

What is counselling?

Counselling offers you the chance to talk privately with a trained professional who can listen, offer support, advice and new perspectives on your issues. The decision to seek help for a personal situation is a tough one. The whole idea of talking to an outsider about personal problems can be hard.

However, many Forgotten Australians and their family members have told us that they have found counselling helpful in coming to terms with issues from the past, as well as a practical way of resolving current problems.

For Forgotten Australians

Open Place will pay for counselling services for Victorian Forgotten Australians across Victoria and throughout Australia. Forgotten Australians who were “in care” in Victoria can have counselling arranged in their local area at no cost.

You can choose a counsellor or Open Place will assist in locating and recommending a suitable and qualified person.

Open Place will support up to 20 counselling sessions per financial year for each Forgotten Australian on an ongoing basis.

Open Place has two counsellors on the team. These counsellors are available to see Forgotten Australians and to run group programs for Forgotten Australians.
