Counselling - Open Place
One of the services that Open Place offers for Forgotten Australians and their direct family members is access to counselling. Many Forgotten Australians have taken up this resource and have told us that it’s been a positive experience for them.
There are no requirements (other than confirmation of time in ‘care’) to access the counselling service. If you are thinking that this might be a helpful resource for you or someone in your family, please contact the Open Place counselling team to discuss what will work best for you. The counselling team will assist in arranging counselling with an experienced person who knows about what happened to Forgotten Australians.
What is counselling?
Counselling offers you the chance to talk privately with a trained professional who can listen, offer support, advice, and new perspectives on your issues. The decision to seek help for a personal situation is a tough one. The whole idea of talking to an outsider about personal problems can be hard.
However, many Forgotten Australians and their family members have told us that they have found counselling helpful in coming to terms with issues from the past, as well as a practical way of resolving current problems.
