National Redress - Open Place

NATIONAL REDRESS

Open Place offers support for people applying for, or are thinking of applying for, redress through the National Redress Scheme for people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse.

The role of the Open Place National Redress Scheme support team is to provide assistance and encouragement to make the Redress Scheme’s processes accessible and as stress-free as possible for Forgotten Australians taking part.

The National Redress Scheme is in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. Applications can be made any time before 30 June 2027. The application process involves filling in an
‘Application for Redress’ form.

You can choose to apply if you:
  • experienced institutional child sexual abuse before 1 July 2018, and
  • are aged over 18 or will turn 18 before 30 June 2028, and
  • are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and
  • are applying about an institution that has joined the National Redress Scheme, and
  • apply between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2027.

The National Redress Scheme’s web site www.nationalredress.gov.au provides comprehensive and clear information and resources for making an application, including links to free legal advice and support services. The National Redress Scheme helpline 1800 737 377 is also an excellent source of assistance.

Applications will be considered by an Independent Decision Maker, guided by an ‘Assessment Framework’ that can be viewed on the National Redress Scheme web page (be aware that the details in this framework may be confronting).

If we can assist, if you have questions, get stuck with the form, or have other barriers to making your application, give the Open Place National Redress Scheme support team a call on 1800 779 379.
